Job Description

Residential Support Provider

Qualifications

 

Must be 18 years of age or older.

High school diploma or equivalent is desired but not required.

Must be supported by three (3) or more work-related references.

Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record as determined by Board policy.

Primary Responsibilities

To teach, train, encourage and provide opportunities to enable people with disabilities to obtain maximum independence in the management of all aspects of daily living to include personal, financial, household, medical, health, safety, and leisure activities. To provide other direct support needed by program participants.

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  1. Responsibilities Related to Program Participation
  1. Provides teaching and training opportunities to individuals in all aspects of daily living to include but not limited to personal, financial, household, medical, health, safety and leisure management using task analysis, modeling techniques, verbal or visual instruction, one-on-one assistance and any other acceptable teaching or training method.
  2. Demonstrates flexibility, creativity, and commitment in delivering support to people with disabilities.
  3. Responsible for transporting and supervising program participants to and from work, scheduled activities, medical appointments, recreational outings by utilizing the agency vehicle or personal vehicle if necessary.
  4. Participates in and instructs individuals receiving support on their options concerning activities and/or use of leisure time and provides appropriate guidance resulting from the consequences of their choices.
  5. Responsible for monitoring the health, safety, and the well-being of each program participants and reporting any issues that directly affect any of these areas to whom he/she provides support. This includes but is not limited to, the reporting of abuse and allegations of abuse.
  6. Observes program participants and reports to management any physical, social, emotional, or behavioral changes.
  7. Maintains program participants records and reports in a complete and accurate manner respecting the confidentiality of the program participant.

  1. Studies and becomes familiar with current program objectives and supports for the program participants and aids them in achieving these objectives through teaching, modeling, and role-playing in a manner that promotes learning.
  2. Maintains a friendly but professional relationship with each individual receiving support under his/her care and models positive interaction between self and co-workers. Exhibits sound judgement and reasonable decision-making skills in performance of duties.
  3. If required assists with medication delivery to ensure each program participant is provided with only his/her medication. Reports any medication error, which may endanger the health or well-being of the program participants.
  4. Assists program participants as needed in the area of nutrition, including grocery shopping, meal preparation and clean-up. Follows inventory, purchasing, and meal preparation procedures as required.
  5. Consistently addresses challenging behaviors proactively, respectfully, and by avoiding the use of aversive or deprivation intervention techniques. Where these techniques are included in an approved support plan ensures that implementation is as specified, works to find alternatives, and advocates for the eventual elimination of these techniques from the person’s plan.
  6. Utilizes strategies identified in Personal Outcome Measures to ensure that the program participants choices, goals, and desires are being recognized and respected.
  7. Performs housekeeping duties in home/workplace to maintain cleanliness and organization. Will assist in the teaching and training of program participants to become as independent as possible in maintaining their living environments.
  8. Assists program participants with maintaining the grounds of each residence to promote pride and respect for the program participants and the organization.
  9. Helps program participants understand the need for appropriate grooming and dressing and provides assistance in these areas as needed.
  10. Performs any other related duties.

General Responsibilities

 

1.      Relationships and Contact with Others

    1. Conducts self in a manner that serves as a positive role model to other staff, program participants, their families, volunteers, businesses, other agencies, and the public.
    2. Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with all Tri-Development Center personnel as well as with the public, other agencies, and businesses.

  1. Schedule and Time Management
    1. Will be expected to work full time position. Flexibility before and after duty and weekend hours may be required and will depend on schedule demands.
    2. Will effectively complete all assignments in a timely manner.
    3. Will utilize his/her time in a productive manner throughout the workday.
  1. Communication
    1. Will prepare daily and monthly documentation as required.
    2. Communicates in a manner that is easily understood, concise, and professional.
    3. Continuously advocates for the needs of the program participants.
  1. Policies and Procedures
    1. Will adhere to Tri-Development Center Policies and Procedures as outlined in the policy manual.
    2. Will follow the provisions of all memorandums, directives, and applicable manuals.
    3. Will follow all policies and laws pertaining to program participants.
  1. Will complete other duties as assigned.

       Supervisor:

       The direct supervisor for the RSP will be the Manager/ Coordinator and/or QIDP.

  1. Meetings will be held as necessary with the supervisor.
  2. RSP staff are responsible for keeping their supervisor informed of any problems related to performing his/her duties.
  3. Will at all times adhere to the standards and policies under which the agency operates.

Typical Physical Demands:

 

The RSP employee must have the ability to move intermittently throughout the workday. Activities include sitting, standing, bending, lifting, driving, using a keyboard, making, and transferring phone calls and taking messages, and possibly physical intervention with upset, combative, and/or psychotic program participants. He/she is subject to lifting, carrying, and restraining program participants and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Working Conditions

The RSP employee is expected to work a full-time position flexible scheduled shifts Sun-Sat.  Flexibility before and after duty and weekend hours may be required and will depend on schedule demands.  Additionally, he/she must be willing to accept other positions temporarily, when necessary.  He/she may be subject to falls, infectious diseases, odors, noises, and physical injury due to behavior interventions.  This position will be considered non-exempt for the purposes of determining overtime compensation.
